CEREC®

Same Day Crowns in Santa Ana

Traditional placement of many restorations required a minimum of two visits, but with CEREC technology, you can walk out of Bay Dental with your new crown on your first visit! CEREC is short for Ceramic REConstruction and can be used to create porcelain inlays, onlays, crowns and veneers.

This is truly an artisan approach to dentistry. The tooth is prepared for the crown then coated with a reflective powder and a 3D photo of the tooth is taken with a special camera. Using the 3D digital data your new crown is designed using CAD (computer-aided design) technology. Dr. Mahallati designs your new crown and chooses a block of ceramic with coloring that matches your natural teeth. CEREC mills the block using precision high speed diamonds to custom fit your tooth. The crown is bonded to your tooth and you are done!

CEREC Inlays

CEREC inlays can be used instead of traditional amalgam or composite fillings to create a smooth, tooth colored replacement of tooth material lost to cavities. CEREC inlays are designed and custom-fabricated using state of the art CAD/CAM technology to perfectly match your tooth and bring it back to its natural strength.

The CEREC inlay is superior to amalgam or composite fillings because of its superior esthetics and strength. With enamel-like material, they look and feel like your real teeth. As with any CEREC restoration, your inlay can be taken care of in one visit. You can avoid the impression materials, temporary and return visit associated with lab-fabricated ceramic restorations.

CEREC Onlays

CEREC onlays take the place of extensive amalgam or composite fillings to create a smooth, tooth-colored replacement to tooth material lost to cavities. Onlays are more extensive than inlays, covering one or more of the cusps (bumps) on the chewing surface of the tooth. Onlays can also be called partial crowns. With CEREC onlay, you may be able to avoid the need for a full crown, thereby preserving healthy, natural tooth structure.

Because it is metal free, CEREC onlays have a more natural look and feel to them, and as with all CEREC restorations, your onlay can be taken care of in one visit. You can avoid the impression materials, temporaries, and the return appointment associated with lab-created onlays.

CEREC Crowns

A deep cleaning may be recommended if excessive plaque and tartar deposits have developed below the gum line. Deep cleanings, also known as scaling and root planing, involve a two-part process: first, the stubborn deposits are removed, and then the root surfaces are smoothened. A deep cleaning helps prevent periodontal disease and restores gum tissues to a healthy state.

A crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over a tooth to restore its shape and size, strength or improve its appearance. A crown may be needed to protect a weakened tooth from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth, to restore a broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down.

The CEREC crown provides a beautiful looking, single-visit restoration. With its enamel-like material, the CEREC crown looks and feels like your real teeth. Unlike PFM (porcelain fused to metal) crowns, CEREC is metal free. Although the PFM crown can mimic natural tooth appearance, the metal limits translucency and can sometimes show through as a dark line, especially at the gum line.

CEREC crowns are more conservative than traditional crowns and therefore preserve more healthy natural tooth structure.

As with all CEREC restorations, your crown can be made in just one visit. No temporaries, no messy impressions, and no return visit!
